Classic Game Room – SEGA DREAMCAST vs. MAGNAVOX ODYSSEY 2

Classic Game Room HD reviews a competition between two video game console powerhouses, the SEGA DREAMCAST vs. the MAGNAVOX ODYSSEY 2. Which gaming system is the winner, the Sega Dreamcast or the Magnavox Odyssey 2? Watch this detailed review and find out. The Sega Dreamcast is a popular game system that was released in North America in 1999. The Magnavox Odyssey 2 is a classic cartridge based game console released in 1978. In some ways these two game systems could not be more different... in some ways they could not be more alike. The Sega Dreamcast has Sonic, Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur and Chu Chu Rocket. The Magnavox Odyssey 2 has KC Munchkin, KC's Krazy Chase, War of Nerves and Invaders from Hyperspace. Each game console costs about today, used, and games are readily available and frequently inexpensive. Sega is well known for the amazing array of arcade titles, machines and game consoles like the Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Megadrive, Game Gear and Sega Saturn. Magnavox is known for.... televisions. Maybe they made boom boxes too, and lots of other stuff. This is an interesting and entertaining look at two video game consoles with short life spans. It didn't have to be that way, and it doesn't. You can buy the Dreamcast, Odyssey 2 and stacks of games for a fraction of the price of a new PS3 or Xbox 360. Classic Game Room loves classic retro systems as much as the new ones, and this competition of Sega Dreamcast vs Magnavox Odyssey 2 is one of our finest ...

  2. magnavox pile of shit charlie chaplin style gaming machine

  3. Sega does what Magnavon’t

  4. the dreamcast is like PS1!!!

  5. 2:46 Don’t forget the Sega SG-1000, which was only released in Japan.

  6. @dkabot I wouldn’t say that the graphics of a game are opinion. They are either good or they aren’t.

  7. @moreoreos123 Three letters. D V D.

If DVD wasn’t a factor, the Dreamcast would have lasted longer against the PS2.

  8. @moreoreos123
    It’s all opinion anyway.
It’s not like it was with the SNES-Genesis war where the games were different.

  9. @dkabot Games did seem to look better on gamecube. For example, the gamecube version of RE4 looks better than the ps2 version. The xbox and gamecube were both very good graphics wise, i can’t really pick one that is “better”. But in my opinion ps2 was in last place, just because so many of the games looked like total shit

  10. Sega dreamcast was fuckin awesome. I still don’t get why it did so badly, even in its short lifespan it still had a ton of kick ass games, and when it came out it was THE shit. The graphics were like epic back then compared to nintendo 64 and ps1

  11. i thought the dreamcast went against the xbox, gamecube, and ps2

  12. how can someone compare this both consoles ? yeah way better is the dreamcast

  13. @TheJulius59

sonic adventure 2 you mean ?

not sonic adventure 1. hope you did not think i believe that is the dreamcast game.

sonic adventure with shadow is the sonic adventure i’m talking about.

  14. @blitzvomitew16 Nope man, best Sega Dreamcast’s game ever is Shenmue !
Sonic adventure was cool but not as good. You can think about Skies Of Arcadia and Grandia 2 too, both are bette even if that’s not the same kind of game.

  15. @mrsirvine06 1978

  16. @blitzvomitew16 absolutely correct

  17. sonic adventure 2!

    best dreamcast game ever!

if you don’t own a dreamcast then you should get 1 for sonic adventure 2 & sonic adventure 1.

the last 2 real sonic games that stayed true to the classic game-play & elements of a platform game.

  18. atari always will win

  19. i love my magnivox 2 ITS TOTALLY AWESOME

  20. The Magnavox was released in the UK as the Philips game console, it was a Tandy TRS80 computer minus the keyboard. In fact, the computer had the cartridge slot so you could play the same horrible green tinted games on it. We had home computers in those days, e.g. the Commodore 64 and Spectrum 48k, no wonder this abortion never caught on. The games were dire, and mostly consisted of extremely bad conversions of popular titles.

  21. @Davidthekid7 Atari 2600 Junior.

  22. 1972 omg but the was 1998 dreamcast in jap

  23. Thexder for the PS3 is epic!
